What looked like a scitillating game is now a meaningless exhibition. Well for the most part. Denver has clinched the AFC West, and is looking for the first round playoff bye. San Diego had thier playoff reservations cancelled in Kansas City. All they have to play for in this game is a chance to put a damper on Denvers post season dreams. They may be able to do so, but are they willing. A tough game to gamble on, since its hard to figure how motivated Denver would be. San Diego is one of those very good teams missed out on the playoffs, treat this like a Bowl game, one more chance to go into the offseason a winner.

A new years eve prime time match up. The Jovial Giants got a gift in losing and still earning a playoff berth. They win and they secure the NFC East title. Hard to tell if they will be motivated for this one. Oakland may be motivated as old Giant QB Kerry Collins leads the Raiders against the team who let him go. Kerry may be motivated but what of the rest of the Raiders. That team hasn't been motivated for over a month. One of the most solid plays save once for like three months has been to fade the Raiders. Why go against that now. Big home dog thats one reason why. Oh come on, whats one more game when we will have nine months before we can even think about another Raider game.

Could the Colts possibly lose three in a row. To the lowly Arizona Cards no less. The lowly Cards sure pulled a fast one on me. They looked lifeless and listless last time out, then they went and upset Philadelphia. Can they possibly put together a winning streak and make it two in a row. Highly unlikely, as its the Cardinals. Even Indys Jr. Varsity should be able to get something going against the Cards. Then again its a meaningless late season game, much like a preseason game. That sort of thing which brings about the best in the Cards.

Wow what happened to Cleveland last week. Was that an NFL team, or Charlie Fryes old team, the Akron Zips. The Ravens have seemed to regain some swagger since Kyle Boller has returned to the helm. Having won 3 of the last 4 games and covered the last 3 games in a row. Ahh but to show you how relevant stats are, the same sort of thing could have been said about Cleveland, right before the 41-0 debacle of last week.

The Buffalo Bills mustered one more big effort last week in Cincinatti. As The Doc would say "Who'd a thunk it?!?!" Too bad they couldn't do so two weeks ago when someone still cared for them, thier suffering fans at home. There may be a few Bills fans though in New York City who will check the team out on thier final game. As for the Jets they still have several fans who will show up, they may show up for this game too. The Jet fans may be rooting for the Bills in this one also, in hopes of the Jets landing Reggie Bush, or can we say Matt Lienart in New York. They may even be there standing and applauding at the bitter, bitter end. J(EST)-E(ND)-T(HE)-S(EASON) JETS! Yes the Jets have been one of my favorites all year, rock solid to bet against! The Jest! One more payday before we say good bye to old reliable in the season finale.

A game which only a few weeks ago may have seemed to have huge divisional implications, is now but an afterthought. A post mortem if you will to Atlantas season, and an asterisk for Carolina. Atlanta has a huge edge in winning 8 of the last 10 meetings against Carolina, although Carolina did whup up Atlanta 24-6 when the met 3 weeks ago. The Panthers havent exactly gotten stronger down the stretch losing 2 of the last 3 games. The Falcons sure sounded like a team on the verge of throwing in the towel after last weeks loss eliminated them from Playoff competion. However sometimes good teams having the pressure lifted off them have a big day in the home season finale, and yet they somehow still come up short.

Heres another game that looked great just a few weeks ago. However the events of this past weekend, basically castrated all the potential of this match up. This one will be an exhibition game for the Bears. They clinched the second seed and the bye, and will no doubt be looking only to come out healthy. The Vikes were beaten in Baltimore on Christmas, will be playing for jobs for next year as their postseason dreams were dashed. This is like a bowl game for the Vikes, who might be more interested in showing up then the Bears. Besides the Vikes have won the last three games played in Minnesota against the Bears.

Kansas City still has flickering playoff hopes. While Cincinnatti is still dreaming of a first round bye. That might make for at least teams interested in really playing football in this one. Add to it that it will be in Kansas City where they are always charged to see thier Chiefs. That should wind up making for one heck of a game. Which if you know what I think about playoff games you would know that I don't like this game at all. KC is 6-1 ATS at home this year and have a gawdy 28 game home winning streak in December, including a 7 to 2 edge in the last 9 games against Cincy. They both need this one but K.C. needs this one desprately and Cincy is going to the playoffs either way.

Detroit at Pittsburgh -16.5

Detroit had a nice road victory last time out in New Orleans, Although it took a Christmas miracle to do so. Still they have now covered in 2 of the last 3 games. Now Detroit gets to go into Pittsburgh, where the Steelers have a mediocre 3-4 ATS mark and a really big number number in this one. Pittsburgh needs a win to get into the playoffs. The Steelers have all the look of that team hitting it's stride big late in the season. The will look to do so and roll their way into the playoffs. For Detroit the season ends after this game. About half of the team it will be over on Sunday, The rest of the team stopped playing football sometime around October.

This heated rivalry should have plenty of excitement despite New England having already clinched the AFC East title. The Dolphins are playing for respect, pride and a 4 game winning streak. They are really playing for the future, and what a future if they could go into it with a 5 game winning streak, having knocked off the defending champs in their house, to end the season. That would mean a perfect December for Miami, and perfect January... and that hasn't happened since the Shula Days.

The Saints started the season off with a huge emotional road win and they end the season with a game that will decide the fate for the NFC South. If New Orleans decides to show up and pull the upset, Tampa will not win the NFC South. An upset is not as crazy as it sounds, as Tampa is only 2-4 ATS, or about 33% at home in the last 6 home games, and are only like 50-50 in the last 10 ATS against N.O. with each team covering on the others home turf in the last 3 meetings. Take that as you will, New Orleans is only a 20% chance of covering gong 1-4 ATS in its last 5. And when was the last time New Orleans won a meaningful game, exactly.

Now here is the game we have all been waiting for. Unlike many games this week, this one is not meaningless at all. In fact this game could shape the landscape in the NFL for the next several years. The winner, well they will have 4 wins, not really a memorable season. The loser can say this was the turning point, the right to draft Reggie Bush. Although Houston is 6-3 ATS in its last 9 games, Neither team may WANT to win this game. It could be almost comical, and more intrigue than many games even involving playoff implications.

Tough match up between these AFC South Rivals. Tennessee hasn't had too much go thier way this season. The Jags are one of those teams who has. You have to give the Jags credit though, they have lost all kinds of players as well, but they are still winning games. They are basically content with the playoff spot they earned, and will be looking to just come out of this one healthy. Often that can lead to a sloppy games between uninterested teams. While the Titans may be at that stage, even the Jags backups will be executing and execution leads to success, something J-ville is used to and Tenn this year has not.

Once this was a playoff preview. Now the only possible reason for anyone to watch this game might be that it could be the last time we ever get to see Brett Farve Play. Although many Packer fans will tell you they haven't really seen Brett Farve play in years. Brett is a gamer though, he isn't the sole reason the Pack is where its at, no they have plenty of reasons why they suck so bad. Perhaps they will have a good showing in thier finale, against an uninterested Seattle team. Still some of the 2nd stringers who Seattle will be playing are much better than what they are calling front line players in Green Bay lately, and even that SHOULD be no contest.

If they win, they are in the playoffs, and coupled with a Raider upset of New York, could wind up the NFC East Champions. The NFC East Champions, that mantle is still held by Philadelphia. They have beaten Washington in 8 of the last 10 times when they met. Including going 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Philadelphia. However after this game they will no longer hold that distinction. Something I should have realized several weeks ago. Even though Philly has covered in 3 of the last 5 games, this is a playoff game for Washington.
