Saturday, Dec. 20Atlanta +6.5 at Tampa Bay -6.5After the pasting in Indy the Falcons fly down to Tampa to take more punishment from the Tampa defense. The Champs need this game to stay in the postseason hunt. More of the same for Atlanta this week as the Bucs were the inspiration for Tony Dungys defensive game plan which stifled Micheal Vick last week. The Bucs have better personnel on defense to play that scheme and contain Vick. Once they do that Atlanta really has no shot.

They have faded from their 6-0 start and are now tied with Green Bay. Fortunately for them the Chiefs come in with the AFC west all wrapped up. Still the Chiefs want to capture home field if they have any shot at the Super Bowl. So this will be a huge game. Minnesota is lethal at home - but their defense is very generous. The Chiefs are also generous against the run and they have no one to take away Randy Moss so I am going purple here gang! New England -4.5 at N.Y. Jets +4.5Got to give credit to the Jets. As much as they have been through and as sorry as they started the season they are still fighting hard. The Pats on the other hand have not only been fighting but they have been winning. This is a dangerous game for New England as they also have the East wrapped up and even though they are also fighting for home field they may not be thinking much about these feisty Jets, and even for me to count them out, that would be a mistake. Bucs Sunday, Dec. 21Baltimore -3.5 at Cleveland +3.5Nothing is decided yet in the AFC North. Both Balt and Cincy sit tied atop this division. Despite all Baltimore has accomplished, and the impressive victory over Cincy the past week, it could all be for naught if they lose this game. Don't kid yourself one bit about Cleveland. They may not be that good, but they are still fighting hard, showing all wise guys that they weren't 10 points worse than Denver as Mr. Bomber warned me. They will get run on and over this week though. Cincinnati +6.5 at St. Louis -6.5A huge game for both these two. St Louis knows the importance of the Dome field advantage in the playoffs. While Cincy is actually thinking post season - and a win here would really be a big stride in that direction. Despite the great job Marvin Lewis has done this year, he will struggle to find answers for the Rams in the Dome. Cincy fans don't fret though this was a heck of a season for ya, and even a loss does not eliminate Cincy this week. If you told any Bengal fan that they would go into week 17 with a chance to make the playoffs - they would take that. They will be taking a lot more this Sunday though!
Detroit +9.5 at Carolina -9.5"One of our goals this season was to close the gap in our division" - John Fox, Coach of the Panthers. Hey John, I would say you accomplished that, winning the NFC South. I have been on Carolina most this season, and this week will be no different. I am worried though that with the winning the division, the Cats really have nothing to play for now. For them home field is out, and they may not be playing hard. The solace for me here is that Detroit has been playing that way all season except the one "excuse me" game on Thanksgiving! Miami +1.5 at Buffalo -1.5A strange game to handicap actually. Miami is terrible in December, and much worse in the lousy weather. Make no bones about it Buffalo this time of year is nasty. Well the weather certainly is, The Bills though really aren't. They have been playing hard, and at home in December, they are extra tough. Greg Williams may be a lame duck coach though, and he may not really have his guys playing hard for him in this one. Miami may also be in the dumps after the Monday night beat down at home, all their December failings are no doubt in their mind. Its those ugly green shirt-green pants unis. though! Don't they know that looks awful! Break out with the orange jerseys and shock the Bills!! They wont though, cause Wannstedt is just as bad a coach as Williams.
The Fins will continue their December swoon, which they have mentally already resigned to. New Orleans at Jacksonville EThe smoking saints scorched NY Sunday night. While the red hot Jags were cooled off in a snowy New England. This will be a big time match up as both these two are playing great ball. Hard to figure what Saints team will come out. If they click like they did on Sunday night it will be hard for the Jags to stop them. Then again the Saints Defense has been very porous all year, and going against an offense with NFL caliber offensive linemen may expose that. The Jags let me down last week but I can excuse one loss in the Snow. I don't know if I can excuse the Saints.

N.Y. Giants +10.5 at Dallas -10.5Hard to call this one a game. The Giants have lost six in a row. They have guys starting for them who just a few weeks ago were not even in the league. The Giants may be the playing the worst football in the league. They have definitely "phoned it in". The bright side for New Yorkers is betting against the Giants has been very profitable the past six weeks! Dallas is on the other end of that, while experts thought they would be the ones playing out the string in this game. Instead a victory here in Dallas against the lifeless Giants will clinch a playoff spot for the Parcells Boys. Hard to go against that. THE NFL EDGE Features THE LIVE NFL BETTING LINES Through our partners at Tennessee -5.5 at Houston +5.5Got to be something in the water there in Tennessee, and more than what they put in there over in Lynchburg. Billy Volek steps in and throws for 295 yards and two touchdowns in relief then promptly tears his spleen, and is out for the season. No problem for the Titans as they turn to the old reliable cripple Steve McNair. Houston has really struggled since losing QB David Carr. He could be back this week. Although despite that they still continue to play well defensively. Even with Carr back they will struggle to score again this week with the Titan Defense. McNair even at 50% should be able to find holes in that secondary, and despite another respectable effort from Houston will drop another one to the Titans. Washington +4.5 at Chicago -4.5The Skins after struggling along had really picked up their game and going into last week were feeling pretty good about themselves. Then Parcells goes in there and pastes arguably the worst loss of the Steve Spurrier era. That has to be decimating to a team already resigned to playing out the string. That loss may have been good news to the fans over in Lincoln, NEBRASKA though where a new era may be but two weeks away. Speaking of new Era the Rex Grossman era has now officially started in Chicago. The Bears have rebounded nicely from the slow start, and being 5-2 at home will make them formidable for the Skins to solve. Even with the Rookie at QB. Bucs San Diego +5.5 at Pittsburgh -5.5The Chargers come into Pittsburgh after getting devastated by the Pack at home. The Steelers are also regrouping from a discouraging 6-0 loss to the Jets. Even were Doug Flutie going to play this game, I still wouldn't take San Diego. The way that Steeler defense looked last week though LaDamian Tomlinson could have a big day. That wont be enough though for San Diego as the Steelers should be able to light that defense up, despite the disappointment of this season, effectively nullifying the running game for the Bolts. Arizona +11.5 at Seattle -11.5Well Seattle can breathe easier this week. For one we know its not a road game. So that greatly increases Seattles chances here in this one. Hosting Arizona with inexperienced starting QB Josh McCown at the helm has got to make the folks up there just Giddy. Playoffs are still on the radar for Seattle, but they will have to be able to win on the road. This game could go a long way toward building up some momentum for them to be able to do that. San Francisco +7.5 at Philadelphia -7.5Something about those Eagles huh? "Sneaky good" is what I say. There they are on top in the NFC east and in the drivers seat for home field. San Fran though - despite the disappointing campaign is not a bad team. They can give anyone trouble, especially now with Jeff Garcia at the helm again throwing to T.O. They have a nice defense too. I might be tempted in this one thinking that the Eagles might be underestimating the Niners a little and they don't always play great at home. So the only way I would take San Fran though is with points cause in the end it will be McNabb and his birds there SNEAKING out another W.

This being another opportunity for them to step up and send a message. Tony Dungys defense will do just that as the Broncs go without their big horse Clinton Portis and will rely on either Jake the snake or Pickoff Plummer and depending on which shows up will be the key. The Key for Indy though is Payton Manning and he is steady and solid, with a healthy Edgerrin James, Payton should dissect Denvers defenses dooming them in the dome. The Raiders shown last week they still have some fire. So did Green Bay though dismantling the Chargers! Oakland will come out fired up for a final Monday night appearance, they will stick with Green Bay early. Ahman Green will be too much for Oakland though as he will wear them down enough to allow Farve to kill them late, Green bay wins a CLOSE one.
