Sunday, Dec. 7Chicago +5.5 at Green Bay -5.5Hey don't look now, but the Bears have a bit of a win streak going! Believe this or not but the Bears have played their way back into the playoff picture. In a strange scenario where they win this game and a Viking loss would put the Bears only one game out of first. How crazy is that after the start they had. They have gotten good solid play from Kordell Stewart since Chandler (as per usual) got banged up, and got a solid contribution from rookie RB Brock Forsey, telling me one thing - their offensive line has GOT to be playing well. LB Brian Urlacher leads a decent defensive unit. The Pack has got to be really steamed off that thanksgiving Turkey! Back in Pack-land, outdoors in the cold where Bretts hands are all numb from the cold and he cant feel his broken thumb as he will lead the pack to a vengeful victory throttling the upstart Chicagoans.

The stunning, amazing, first place Bengals visit the Baltimore badlands patrolled by Ray Lewis. What was that I was saying when I said momentum can take a team a long way. 44 points coming off another 40 point effort you might think Baltimore was an offensive juggernaut. Yet they create all those points with their Defense! Having a truck like Jamal Lewis helps too. Wait now the Bengals are built in that same mold, a solid defense molded by Marvin Lewis. (hey that's a Lewis trifecta) with an offensive line moving people out of the way for the likes of Rudi Johnson and Coery Dillon (what no Lewis??) - this will be a big time hitting game. Cincy though don't have anyone like "Sugar" Ray Lewis on their defense. Sugar Ray is the most dominant defender in the NFL and will show you Sunday. Dallas +4.5 at Philadelphia -4.5Hey is this a great Sunday for football fans! Yet another big divisional match up which will shape the post season for 2003. Bill P. brings the somewhat tarnished star of Dallas into the Linc for a rematch with the soaring Eagles. The Eagles are playing as well as anyone in the NFC right now, with QB Donovan McNabb leading the charge. Its tough to bounce back from getting 40 slapped on you on national TV. That team has just spanked me all year (except the Buffalo game - I had that one!) What can I say; David Carr is the real deal, with him at the helm and that Dom Capers Defense, you have to say that this team has a shot to win any week. Jax coming off that big upset win against Tampa might be in a position to have a let down. Although its hard to imagine a 3-9 team taking anyone lightly. The Texans are gritty alright but the Jags are the hottest bet in the league right now. Indianapolis +2.5 at Tennessee -2.5Indy is coming off a tough and rare loss at home this year. They were flat outcoached in the waning minutes of that game. They travel down the road to Tennessee for another gargantuan match with divisional title implications. Tenn. didn't help themselves at all Monday night against the Jets. In fact they looked pretty vulnerable to me. So it all comes down to this one. My preseason pick here was Tennessee, this week they will show you all why.
Oakland +4.5 at Pittsburgh -4.5Hey now here's a game that would have surprised me if you told me would be between two teams playing out the string. That's what it is though. Among all the games with huge implications this one might be of little interest to the casual fan, However I relish games like this one! The Raiders just flat out don't have it, they got old real fast, Callahan has lost control, and they are just undisciplined to begin with. While the Steelers sure stink so far just as much. They are also playing out the string. On paper these two are just about even though. I think the Steelers have a better offense, with QB Tommy Maddox, and Bill Cowher is a better coach. I like Pitt to just light this one up and it wont take an immaculate reception to pull this one out.
San Diego +3.5 at Detroit -3.5Hey heres another big "who cares" game, at least in relation to the other games this week. Well besides a few folks in San D. and Motown, we here at the NFL edge care. We really do. We love games like this. Dougy Flutie at 41 leads the Chargers (did you see how he Snuck them in the back door on that amazing last play vs. KC!?!) there is NO QUIT in that guy. If half his team had half his heart they would have twice the wins. I know all about Detroit, at home looked very impressive on Thanksgiving- ya-da ya-da - you can line up with all the other fools still thinking about the impressive performance thanksgiving and you can lose your money like everyone else as the Lions are 1-11 following week after Thanksgiving. Ya like that stat, heres another, they have won 3 in a row at home - I bet it wont get to 4.
Seattle +2.5 at Minnesota -2.5Seattle visits Minnesota in yet another great match up with big NFC playoff implications. The Vikes were pasted in St Louis and with a young team like this - you have to question if their confidence is shaken. Seattle rebounded from a big loss with an impressive home victory. It will be tough going into an angry dome there to tangle with the Vikes. I like Hasselbeck and Holmgren a whole bunch as they go into this one with some confidence. They wont fold in the dome and instead will find holes in the Minny secondary with a huge second half after some deft half time adjustments and come out of Minny with the W.

They spoil an otherwise great season for LSU and send the USC Trojans to the Sugar Bowl.

Tampa Bay +1.5 at New Orleans -1.5Well don't look now but the mighty Bucs have fallen, getting bit by the Jag on Sunday night, seriously dampened their playoff hopes. Instead its New Orleans playing for the Wild Card and the Bucs chasing them. Yeah I know the Bucs history this season of bouncing back. But these same Saints have taken the last 3 games between these two. Are the Saints that much better than the champs. Maybe not but the NFL is about match ups - and mismatches. The Saints match up well against the Bucs. If they can get it going early and put some scores up on that Defense - it could be a long afternoon for the soon to be former champs. THE NFL EDGE Features THE LIVE NFL BETTING LINES Through our partners at Washington +3.5 at N.Y. Giants -3.5In a disappointing campaign for both these two teams, the only meaning in this game is who will inhabit the cellar of the NFC East. Hard to predict which of these two will show up or who will pack it in. Lot of that has to hinge on weather or not TE Jeremy Shockey plays for NY. They have dropped three straight with him out of the lineup. They are a generous 1-5 at home so that could spell trouble too. If Spurriers gang is still playin' ball and not playing out the string, I suspect the upsets sting. A quick TD or two might get the fans into a riot with the FI-RE-FAS-SELL chants. A fired up Shockey though might change all that - but will they be able to get him the ball behind that decimated offensive line? Arizona +10.5 at San Francisco -10.5Arizona no one realistically expected anything from this year. In fact you pretty much can say that every game they happened to win was an upset. The Niners on the other hand were hoping for at least another playoff bid. That was an embarrassment for them last week in Baltimore. Hard to see any team getting up off the mat after that. Nothing like some home cooking and a date with the Cardinals to start the healing though. Although they are sort of due for another upset aren't they?? Bucs Kansas City +2.5 at Denver -2.5These two have really led divergent lives after their early season clash. Back then it was the undefeated Chiefs vs the one loss Broncos. The Chiefs came out on top in that contest. They have since run their record out to 10-1 and are everyones pick to be super. The Broncs struggled some but have remained on the fringes of playoff contention. This is the time of year when they tough need to get going. Even at 10-1 a loss by the Chiefs here would not be that damaging - and conversely could really ignite the Broncos. Clinton Portis in that Mile High home could have a big day. But don't the Chiefs have a decent back themselves?? The Pundits say Denver scores revenge for its earlier season slicing. The Greek meanwhile is grabbing KC and the sunshine points! Like when are you ever going to see KC WITH POINTS again all season?
Miami +3.5 at New England -3.5This is another big game in the AFC East. Miami coming in off the huge win in Dallas on Thanksgiving. Is about to come face to face with its biggest demon. A big late season road game in the COLD! Worse yet Bellicheck in a chess match with Wannstedt. That's like Pee-Wee Herman trying to beat up Arnold Governator, a total mismatch. Brady will find holes in the Miami defense and the New England Defense will be up for the Challenge of Ricky Williams. Funny thing though I like the heart of this Dolphin team. They are coming in off a big win and their defense is playing well. I have a hunch in this one given Sunday the ball bounces their way once or twice here or there allowing them to stay in the game. N.Y. Jets +3.5 at Buffalo -3.5Another big AFC East dish in this weeks feast of great clashes. Although not as impacting on the playoffs as some of the other games this week though. Buffalo finally got off the scoring toilet on the road last week and looked more like the early season Bills. New York gets more confident with every Pennington start. Shame this guy was hurt this year as the Jets could have had something this year. Coulda-woulda-shoulda, is it snowing yet in western new york? That might be the only way to slow down the Pennington 747. Even without Pennington the Bills were pasted 30-3 last time these two played. It will bw closer this time. But wait Micheal Vick is back folks and just in time for Prime time showcase game(hmmm). The talk in Carolina is of late season collapses, as in years past. Losers of two in a row - no need to hit the panic button just yet. It will be a different Atlanta team that they will be facing in the dome. Make no doubt about it though the Cardiac Cats aren't the same old Cats. They will be ready to snare the soaring falcon Vick with their D and grind out a dose of Steven Davis with some Delhomme passes and will escape this week as kicker John Kasay will redeem his performance from last week and kick the Cats over the Falcons this week!

Its also alive and well here at the NFL edge where we give more winners, for those who have stuck around. We try again here on Monday. The Brownies have been staunch at home, and should bring another big effort. The weather will hinder the timing of the potent Ram offense. Cleveland will hang in the game. Marshall Faulk will prove too much for the Browns as the Rams just have to many weapons to keep off the board all night!

However, a bowl game will be very hollow indeed if the Middies cannot beat the Black Knights from Army. Look for a fired up Navy team to run some textbook option and play hardnosed D to get the win. But it won't be easy.
