Sunday, Oct. 19Baltimore -1.5 at Cincinnati +1.5A game much tougher than it looks. Any betting maven will tell you Cincy has been a really good "cover" the past few times out, finally breaking through with a win as well. The Ravens have been playing just as well, and folks winning UGLY IS PLAYING WELL. Remember the Raven team that won the Superbowl a few years ago. They won ugly too. This is what Billick does, I have mad respect for him and for what Marvin Lewis is doing up there in Cincy. It will be Jamal Lewis on one side and Ray Lewis on the other and the Ravens getting away with another ugly Win and establishing themselves uglily atop the AFC North. Dallas -3.5 at Detroit +3.5Heh heh heh, well the old master Parcells is at it again. Historically Dallas has often struggled to inferior Detroit teams. This could be one of those let down games. With the explosive Joey Harrington going against the Dallas secondary. There is a different feel though around the Dallas camp though, they really buy into Parcells wholeheartedly and that discipline will once again come through on game day. I like Mariucci and the Lions to pull the sneak attack, but I swore last week if they could come through and beat Philly that I was on the Cowboy bandwagon -- Sheriff Parcells, How bout them Cowboys?? Minnesota is at 5-0 though some folks still feel they haven't really been tested yet. Denver has been tested by some big games already and last week answered the bell - behind the wily veteran backup QB Steve Buerline. Minnesota had the week off and needed it to get back some key guys like QB D. Culpepper. Mike Tice has done a great job molding that young Viking Defense and that will be the key to this game - if they can contain Denver RB Clinton Portis the Vikes will win this game. If not and the Broncs can run the ball and control the clock - It really wouldn't be an upset - unless you bet big money on Minny. Green Bay +4.5 at St. Louis -4.5St Louis appears to have really hit their stride after a slow start. Even with RB Marshall Faulk out they are still generating lots of offense. The Pack has a much better defense than the one Atlanta threw at them. Things cant be too good in Packerland after that stunning home collapse to Kansas City. Even a team that thrives under pressure, bounces back big after losses, will have a hard time bouncing back after that loss. Going into the Dome there in St. Louis though and taking on a team clicking like the Rams are now - don't bode well for the Pac-men.

Bucs New England +5.5 at Miami -5.5A big early season match up in the AFC East. A Dolphin win would clearly establish the fish in first and give them a huge edge over a Pats team that has rebounded from a rough start and has emerged as the challenger for the AFC East. The Pats won a sloppy game where they played sloppy but were outslopped by their opponent as the Pats created 5 turnovers in that game. The fins have shut people down with defense and some big plays. The key here is this is an early season match up and the fish are really good this time of year. The big burley guys from NE will get worn down in the humidity of Miami in October, and an already depleted defense will tire of tackling big ole Ricky Williams. Ricky will break a big one or two off against a tired defense in the 4th qtr and make a tough defensive struggle look like a blowout in the paper the next day. New Orleans -1.5 at Atlanta +1.5I clearly wrote the Saints off for dead last week, but they rose up and slapped me silly. I had suspected an Aaron Brooks resurgence last week and went against it anyway. Duce McAllister also showed up with perhaps his best rushing performance of the season. Atlanta meanwhile cant feel too good about a 36-0 slap down in St Louis. While they played gutty their defense is clearly overmatched and the offense has gone from bad to just invisible. The Saints D will help them out some. Atlanta's generous defense however will be all too gracious to the Saints offense as I look for another big Day from the Duce and Brooks will benefit from the running game as he will have a big day in a big win for the boys from the big easy.
Philadelphia +3.5 at N.Y. Giants -3.5The Giants have looked dominant at times, and still they lose the game. They did this in both their last two losses, driving the ball and coughing it up. That is really starting to play on their minds. The Eagles who seemed to have righted their ship had things backfire on them in Big D. From the opening kickoff - a trick play gone awry, to the last play of a rallying drive to steal victory derailed by a big sack. Hard to tell what to expect from either team this week. This much I know the G-men always struggle against scrambling QBs. If you aren't Kurt Warner and go down from the rush of wind created when they rush past you, missing tackles. The more agile QBs escape, and always kill the G-men with the big scramble on a big pass rush. McNabb is the master of that and if Andy Reid lets him roll out and scramble away out of the pocket it will be a very long day for the G-mens D-men and their fans. San Diego +5.5 at Cleveland -5.5The Bolts go to Brownland to take on the resurgent Clevelanders. Controversy or not with Tim Couch at the helm the Brownlanders have won their last two. The Cleveland offense reverted back to its anemic ways last week against Oakland. RB William Green still managed to rush for over 100 yards and that's the Key for Clevey. The Bolts are a tough luck bunch - eventually they can win a game like this one that no one suspects. However with that Defense they are bringing to Cleveland RB Green will get his 100 yards, Couch will connect on some TDs and check out the Browns record when Green goes over 100 - yup it usually means a victory.

Tennessee +1.5 at Carolina -1.5Carolina is featured again in another heavyweight bout. This is another huge test for the Carolina team. Despite a couple of set backs the Titans are a very good and explosive team. Carolina is playing out of their minds right now and wont be intimidated one lick. Steve McNair though has it going on and he and WR Derek Mason are just clicking on all cylinders. Carolina wins with Defense and Running game. Grind the ball slow down the game and suffocate the other team. John Fox will throw lots of looks and schemes at McNair. Folks Carolina is for real. A danger game for them but they should still pull it out! Washington +2.5 at Buffalo -2.5What happened to Buffalo. To come up so empty in such a big game for them. Washington also came up lame in a big game which could have lent instant credibility to their 2003 campaign. The Washington Defense I had questioned all along, its Buffalo's Defense that is confounding me. They looked awesome and now they look ordinary. It might be all the 3 and outs that the offense is giving them though. Tough to stand tough when you are always under fire. I like the Redskins in this game. Pat Ramsey is a player and he wont have two bad games in a row. Unless that Buffalo offense finds a way to shake out of it and wake up the Skins will be leaving Western New York with a new Buffalo rug for their den. THE NFL EDGE Features THE LIVE NFL BETTING LINES Through our partners at N.Y. Jets -3.5 at Houston +3.5Jets Fly to Houston fresh off their first win. Its doubtful that the Jets will be looking past anyone as bad as they are. However they are the Jets and they could very easily think that they are better than the Houston team. If they do that and there is every indication that they could, they might be in for a big surprise. Its doubtful that even the Jets will consider this an easy win, and they will focus on this game. While Houston will have Carr throwing to Johnson the Jets will be focused on that and counter will lots of old "washed up" Curtis Martin. They did find a way to score 30 points last week against what looked like a pretty solid D. They should be able to that to Houston's D, then don't look now they will be sporting a win streak... surely I JEST? Chicago +10.5 at Seattle -10.5Bears vist the Hawks. Sleeper in Seattle. Unless you're a Hawk fan, then who cares who they play as long as they win. Well the Bears offer the Hawks plenty of opportunity to do that. The Bears had a chance last week to make it a respectable season - and blew that. This will be a tougher task as Seattle features a much better Defense than did New Orleans. Matt Hasslebeck is one of the leagues young stars, and if you don't know who Darrell Jackson and Korin Robinson are yet, you will after this week. They will have highlights allover ESPN later on Sunday, and Shaun Alexander will tear them up on the ground. You get a sense where I am going with this right?

Bucs Tampa Bay -3.5 at San Francisco +3.5Just what San Fran needs, bad enough they are in a 2-4 hole. They were beaten in a close tough game by division leader Seattle. That game could have turned things around for them this season, instead they find themselves deeper in the hole and hosting the defending champs. The Bucs come in with some of the swagger back after the big choke on MNF they rebounded putting up 35 on Washington. Tampa is a hard team to figure this year, they can play good defense and win ugly. They can win big like last week or in week #3 against Atlanta. Or they can look completely vulnerable like in the second half against Indy. If anyone is, San Fran is equipped to exploit their defense like Indy did over the top and deep. I don't think they will, but at home against an overconfident team, stranger things have happened. Actually the last time these two met Tampa made it look easy and I am inclined to think that we will see more of that on Sunday. These old rivals will be going at it again albeit the teams are moving in different directions. The Chiefs are unbeaten and on top of the AFC west looking very good all the way. The Raiders really look old, in addition Coach Callahan really does not have what it takes it seems. The Raiders may have one two games - but any gambler will tell you they "havent beaten anybody" because throw in the point spread and they havent. Including an embarrassment earlier on MNF. So both of those factors can be considered a trend. Heres another the visitor is 4-2 this season on MNF. I know everyone just wants to put the Raiders in the crapper. With my record - I should be right there. So to get back in the race, I should jump on the Chiefs. They should kill right?? Well if it were THAT easy there wouldn't be all these offshore bookies bugging me to advertise here, so I flaunt at all wisdom and will go for the big UPSET on MONDAY - that's right folks - and if you're a long time fan you SAW THIS COMING!

OK, enough with the history lesson - this game will come down to defense. And the Trojans have as good of a D as there is in college ball. USC is very fast and very physical. ND's offense will bog down and won't find the running lanes they saw against Pitt. That will leave the game in the hands of freshman QB Brady Quinn, and Doc thinks that's just too much to ask against a USC team that can score points in bunches.
Texas Tech +6.5 at Okla. St. -6.5GET THE LIVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL BETTING LINES This one will likely be the battle for second place in the Big 12. If ya'll want to see some offense, than check this one out - there will be balls flying all over the field. Tech QB B.J. Symons will put up his usual big numbers, but Doc doesn't think that Tech's D will be able to hold up it's end of the bargain. Oklahoma State is a more balanced team, and will win this one with superior talent and the arm of Josh Fields.
