Sunday, Sep. 14Buffalo -2.5 at Jacksonville +2.5Buffalo was easily the most impressive team of week 1. There were several factors at play none the least of which was the tremendous edge Buffalo has in Orchard Park. Jacksonville lost a tough close road game at the last second. They played better than I anticipated, and I anticipate another tough game from the Jags. Stranger things have happened but I don't look for any let up from Buffalo not with that improved defense.
Cleveland +1.5 at Baltimore -1.5The Ravens will no doubt be going through some growing pains while Kyle Boller adjusts to playing QB in the NFL. Cleveland will press to pose plenty problems for the young QB. The issue here though is what about the Cleveland offense. Getting held to six points at home on opening day!! Browns fans thought the Couch controversy was over, after Holcomb gets held down again, the Browns backers will be begging for Couch - let the controversy begin. WARNING: my Computer likes Cle. 20-14

The Pack has not only lost the aura of invincibility, they have LOST the LAST two games at Lambeau. The cocky Lions come in with plenty of swagger and Harrington to Rogers is a lethal combo - remember that folks - The pack had trouble with Moss last week and will struggle to contain Rookie Rogers too. Green Bay is banged up at wide out and may not be able to stay with Detroit. I doubt Green Bay will drop three in a row at home, but with a TD point spread Detroit only needs to stay close.
Houston +8.5 at New Orleans -8.5Any given Sunday huh?? Houston a first place team? Looks like Dom is pulling off another Caper. (Pun intended) New Orleans didn't look so impressive last week in Seattle and - aside from a critical turnover Houston didn't look that impressive in victory. Although a win is a win, and Houston has a real gem in WR Andre Johnson. Carr to Johnson can keep the Texans in every game. Normally I would not bet an expansion team to win two straight tough road games. However I am not that enamored by what I have seen from the Saints yet either. Figure they have the edge playing at home this week, and should do a number on Houston, but we've heard that old song before too.

Jets +3.5This is wicked game any time these two get together. Miami was more than likely looking past the Texans, and will be much more focused on this game. Still other than Ricky Williams what have the Dolphins got? Chris Chambers had a nice game - but Jay Fiedlers the QB and his critical pick in the fourth did them in. The Jets know the Phins - in fact they sort of own the Phins - aside from last year they had beaten them some nine in a row. The Jets will play hard and tough at home. Neither offense is inclined to Air it out although Cherbet kills the Phish, and even at 40 the Vinterceptor has a better arm than Fielder. So it comes down to the ground game, I gotta give the edge to Ricky as last week looked like Curtis Martin has lost a half a step.
Pittsburgh +3.5 at Kansas City -3.5A tough tough game. Kansas City looks pretty darn good at home and the Steelers with Tommy Maddox lit up the Ravens last week. Sure that was in Pittsburgh and Kansas City is a real tough place to go into and play. The Steelers could have one of the best WR corps in the league, and Maddox looks real good throwing to them. Tough to go against Priest Holmes, Trent Green and Gonzalez, especially when I look at the Action on Pittsburgh. I was thinking it was the points, but bottom line is DEFENSE WINS, and despite an impressive Debut and the home crowd noise and all - I like Maddox to sit in the pocket and pick them apart. I might be wrong picking this upset - but I will take Maddox and the points in what looks to be a shootout.
San Francisco +2.5 at St. Louis -2.5Heres another crazy line. St Louis coming off a Giant thrashing favored over a team that scored 49 points last week. Fans of the NFLEedge know how we and our computer program LOVES teams that score over 40! Sure the Bears HANDED SF several of those points - still the Niners are potent. Another fact about these two going back to when the Rams were in L.A. - always bet the ROAD team in this series. Aside from times when one team is in total disarray - wait the Rams lost their starting QB to a concussion, the coach is going for it on 4th and 12 trailing by 10... this may be a no-brainer.
Tennessee +2.5 at Indianapolis -2.5After an impressive victory at home, the Titans roll into Indy, where the Colts are still looking for their first offensive TD. The good news is that the Defense hasn't allowed a Touchdown either. That will be much harder to do this week against Titan QB Steve McNair and company. However they lost their kicker last week, and in tough close games like this it usually comes down to Special Teams - the "idiot kicker" for Indy may be a drunken loudmouth but he can boot it from about 50 yards out.

EDGE College football. Ya just gotta love it. Last week was crazy: tons of drama, late comebacks, and the hits just kept comin. The Doc is fired up for another great week of ball. Coach Mac is firmly positioned on the hottest seat in the desert. Washington +2.5 at Atlanta -2.5Washington had an impressive home victory to start their 2003 campaign. Pat Ramsey played a solid game and led the team on an impressive drive to set up the winning field goal. Likewise the Falcons got a gritty performance from Doug Johnson to win in Dallas. Proving there is lots more to this team than one guy. Johnson will continue to confound the experts this week as he scrambles the Falcons to their second win without Vick.
Carolina +10.5 at Tampa Bay -10.5The Bucs come home after a sound spanking of Philly in their new house. Waiting in the wings is John Fox and the Carolina Panthers with new starting QB Jake Delhomme. Poor Jake. I really like Jake Delhomme and think he will be a fine starting QB - but if it were me I don't think I would want to start out playing against that defense in that stadium. Carolina is a good team but even the 10 wont be enough against a Buc team that isnt letting up, only getting better.

Perhaps it was that they came through for me 4 times in the preseason. Perhaps it was the impressive debut of Anquan Boldin or maybe its just this masochistic quality of throwing good money away on them. Either way I cant say I am totally sold on Seattle - sure they came through for me last week and the Cards didn't. Well like I said I am a sucker for these stupid little red birds and points - a sucker not COMPLETELY INSANE.
Cincinnati +12.5 at Oakland -12.5About the only memorable thing about Cincy last week was their uniforms, impressively ugly. They looked like the University of Cincinnati rather than a pro team. Will someone please tell whomever is in charge of NFL uniforms the whole dark on dark look is awful. The only thing worse than those uniforms was the play of the Bearcats - um Bengals. Jake Plummer tried his darndest to keep them in the game throwing them the ball on several occaisions - still they only managed 10 points. How well do you think they will fare in Oakland, where Gannon not only throws far fewer picks - he has receivers like Rice, Brown and Garner. All Oakland in this one - and rest assured Cincy is no Houston Texans - ahem!

Bucs Denver -3.5 at San Diego +3.5Lots of polls and power ranking have Denver ranked very highly. After only one victory over hapless Cincy, I like Denver I think that they will win the west. Probably win this game too. Plummer cant be throwing two or three INTs even to the Chargers. Thus far in preseason and in regular season opener he has shown that propensity. He keeps on doing that and its going to get tougher and tougher for Denver to pull it out.
New England +5.5 at Philadelphia -5.5Is there something wrong in Philly? Getting shut out and humiliated to start the season this year and in their new house after the bitter end last year. You don't think that team is talking about the Vets they let get away and starting to lose some confidence. The Pats come in reeling off a shut out as well this time courtesy of the much improved Bills. I look for better effort from both teams this week. NE will try the quick slants out of the spread to take advantage of Phillys 3rd corner. While Philly will no doubt put more onus on McNabb to make plays. I expect a high scoring contest as both these two will let it fly.

I know some "experts" had taken the "September" Bears with the points last week and might think to do it again. Despite the last minute heroics of Brett Farve the Vikes were kicking the Packs butt all day Sunday much more than the score might indicate as Farve got some late scores. The Vikes will exploit the Bears deep early and often, and the Bears don't have the capability to answer. Only a matter of weeks now before the Rex Grossman era begins there and the Jaron countdown starts soon.

So everyone is grabbing the Giants - easy right?? Uh I think not, This is the NFL and not only "any given Sunday" any team can win - but the BIG MONEY goes down on Monday nights.
