Grudge matches, fights for conference supremecy, and backyard brawls all in one week. The Doc loves the home team in most tight rivalry games, and this week is no exception. Dang, Oklahoma/Texas is being played at a neutral sight... I could break down matchups all day, but it comes down to playing big on a big stage. In the preseason, I said that this was the year that Texas finally put it together, and I am going to stick with that. Sunday, Oct. 13Green Bay +4.5 at New England -4.5This was the SuperBowl match up just a few years ago, but both teams are looking far from super at this point in time.I like Green Bay and Farve but the NE defense is good at containing the pass. Meanwhile I have my doubts about the GB defense. I think that Brady can have a big day here and help the pats avoid a three game losing streak. ************************************* Jacksonville -1.5 at Tennessee +1.5Folks, the Jags are for real. Jacksonville is as tough a place to win as anywhere in the NFL, and with a healthy Fred Taylor - which he is now, the Jags are as good as anyone. The Tennessee secondary should be a very inviting place for QB Mark Brunell, the Titans are simply outmanned there.Sure the Titans are fierce rivals and will play better this week at home, but barring injury the Jags are just better right now. ************************************* New Orleans -1.5 at Washington +1.5Lookout now the Skins have a QB! There is fun back in the fun-n-gun. QB Patrick Ramsey looked like the answer for Spurrier last week. We know about thier Defense, they will continue to be solid. I really like the Saints though I think that they have a real good team.This one could go either way, with Ramsey out there - uh its early and all, but he kinda looked a little like Tom Brady to me.Remember who said that! ************************************* Cleveland +6.5 at Tampa Bay -6.5Cleve. struggled against thier last two opponents, and losing against Balt, will not help thier confidence. Tampa brings another fine defensive team, and just enough offense. Then again when your defense scores, as they seem to every weekwhy bother throwing the ball all around, just dont turn it over. ************************************* Kansas City +3.5 at San Diego -3.5The Chargers finally tasted defeat at the hands of the Broncos. Now they have KC coming in riding a two game win streak behind RB Priest Holmes.Recall last year S.D. started solid - but struggled in divisional play. This is another divisional game and while I love the Chiefs offense,they really arent quite there defensively yet. I may be going with the Red Hot Chiefs but would not be surprised to see SD QB Drew Brees have a big day or pull the victory at home. ************************************* Oakland -6.5 at St. Louis +6.5Funny how a few injuries make what seemed like a really intersting match up in the pre-season into a sad farce come the regular season. With the way the Rams look right now, getting Eric Crouch out of retirement and into the starting QB role (yes QB not WR or S) would at least get some folks interested in watching - at this point - only die hards can stomach this. ************************************* Miami +3.5 at Denver -3.5Miami heads out west again after a big divisional game to face another team which will challenge them defensively.TE Sterling Sharpe will seek to shred the Mia defense like Tony Gonazalez of the Chiefs did a couple weeks ago. The Difference this week is the Dolphins have CB Patrick Surtain back which will help them match up on the outside.If they get a good effort defensively, and stay with the running game, the Phish pull off the upset. If it gets into a wild westshootout, as in KC, they can't. These Seminoles, who were supposed to bounce back from last season with a vengence, are showing some glaring shortcomings. Of course, a win over Miami will right Saint Bobby's ship in a hurry. Not gonna happen.
