The Doc says that all Bowl games played before Christmas are absolutely meaningless, and will not be commented on in this forum (meaningless Bowl game? - is that an oxymoron?). Really - the whole thing is so watered down that is is goofy. I love college football, but I just think that the standards are too low for bowl consideration. Anyhow, the good news is that we get to enjoy so many quality matchups that never would happen without the bowl format:
Motor City Bowl:
Boston College -4.5 vs. Toledo +4.5

The Doc likes BC here if only because the Big East should be tougher than the MAC. Toledo is averaging over 400 yards per game on offense, but hasn't faced a team this physical. BC will win in a high scoring contest.

An intriguing matchup of two natural rivals. West Virginia is playing real good football right now, and is pissed that they got snubbed for a New Year's Day bowl game. Look for them to come out firing and take it to the Cavaliers. Virginia's best days are ahead of them, and should be a top program next season. Go with the Mountineers this year.

The Doc still loves Sennaca Wallace despite some struggles late in the year. That being said, the pick here is Boise State because of the home field advantage (and the blue field is a HUGE edge) and because of running back Brock Forsey. The Doc is not convinced that the Cyclones are ready to play like they did at the beginning of the season, and unless they do they will lose this one.

The story here is talent. Washington has too much of it for Purdue. Purdue will move the ball, and play tough defense, but in the end Washington will just be too much for them. WR Reggie Williams is the man, and should have a big game here.

Both of these teams have been successful over the past few years due to great coaching and superior running games. The Doc is a big believer in Sonny Lubick, and will not pick against him in a big game where talent is equal. Look for the Rams of Colorado State to control the game with a grinding offense led by Cecil Sapp and QB Bradlee Van Pelt. TCU has an outstanding defense, but will wear down late and lose a close one.

Another blow out, mismatch, no-brainer. Well it should be as Arizona should have packed it in weeks ago. Problem is that they havent. Arizona covered 3 of the last 4 and getting a whole bunch of points this week. Denver's December dreams were dashed by Oakland and yet they should clobber Arizona. But losing causes tension, there may have more internal strife than we know of and in turn they could pack it up and allow Arizona to go 4/5 down the stretch like my Computer program projects.

Looking at last place after a run in with a rejuvinated Seahawk team playing as well as anyone over the last few weeks. Computer Projection:

Tampa may very well have it put away when they go up to Chicago I would like to think that they would approach it as a must win game. If they play as inspired as they started out Monday despite what score my computer predicts here, I might be tempted with Chicago and the points.

Well this should be a SF win since its evident that the Rams have mailed it in and this is just a formality in starting the offseason. Thats what bothers me, the trend is always even for losing teams to have big home finishes, and I am getting a weird feeling that Bulger will come back for this game, or Marshall Faulk or just one of those rams to go off, I would love to go against the grain and grab the Rams. This is a case of who wants it more. The Doc is taking the Fresno State Bulldogs in this one, cause Tech is not going to be up for this game. This isn't the season they were looking for. State willl open it up on offense with QB Paul Pinegar and Tech will not have an answer. It'll come down to the fourth quarter, and Fresno is going to win with heart and desire.

It would be easy to pick Tennessee here, as they are the traditional power and all, but Doc is going with a Maryland team that really got it together as the season wore on. The Terps are peaking at the right time, and will bring home a big win for Coach Fridge. These are two teams that can play defense. Doc feels that RB Bruce Perry is the difference.

A tough game to call since both teams were inconsistant this season. Talent is never an issue with these programs, but Doc likes the speed of Florida to be the difference here. Michigan is eager to avenge last season'g bowl loss to another SEC team - Tennessee. They won't get it done this time around, but it should be a real tight game with Florida winning late.

This is a good matchup of quality teams with good defenses. The Doc gives the edge to NCState here because of Philip Rivers and the 'Pack offense. They are a notch above the Irish when they have the ball. ND hasn't played that well since beating Florida State in October. Will another trip to Florida spark the Irish? Not enough to pull off the win.

However, the Doc is a believer in the Heisman Jinx, and I think Iowa will find a way to rattle Carson Palmer and win this game. That guy Banks isn't too bad, either.

Here it is - the game that will decide the mythical national championship. Yeah, the BCS isn't perfect, but this one was easy as both squads finished the year undefeated. Many are not giving the Buckeyes a shot in this one, but the Doc is. They play tough defense and can grind the ball. A formula for success. On the other side, Miami has incredible balance and shows almost no weakness. Doc wants to pick the upset, but Miami just looks too good and too focused. They are always up for the big ones. Here come the Canes.
