Miami +2.5 @ New England -2.5
OVER/UNDER 37.5
If theres one thing that can be counted on, its the Dolphins annual swoon in December. Like thier counterparts in Tampa they have trouble winning in the cold.
Add to it a New England team that is really on its game and playing well and this will spell trouble for the Phish.
****************************************
N.E. 23 - Miami 17
****************************************
FINAL NE 20 - Mia 13 WINNER
Phila. +2.5 @ San Fran. -2.5
OVER/UNDER 40.5
Despite all I have been saying about the Niners, despite thier defense posting two shutouts in three weeks, despite them putting up a W against a first place team.
This Eagle team is real good and a chance to clinch thier division with a win on the road. Where Philly is unbeaten this year.
Who am I to pick against a trend like that.
****************************************
Philly 21 - San Fran 20
****************************************
FINAL SF 13 - Phila 3 LOSER
Tenn. +6.5 @ Oakland -6.5
OVER/UNDER 45.5
Should make for an interesting game. Tenn has quietly snuck thier way back into the playoff picture.
Albeit as quite a long shot. Nonetheless the Raiders have locked up a playoff spot and when that happens teams tend to let up a little -- even at home!
Although somehow I think that the Raiders will find just enought to squeak it out anyway.
****************************************
Oak. 24 - Tenn. 20
****************************************
FINAL TENN 13 - Oak 10 COVER

|
New Orleans +3.5 @ Tampa -3.5
OVER/UNDER NL
A huge game for these two teams battling for the third wild card. Both teams are at 7-6 and a win would give either a huge advantage especially in tie breakers.
Tampa generally plays its best with its back against the wall and especially after a huge defeat like that -- although we think that the infighting amoungst offense and defense will be too much for them to overcome
even at home.
****************************************
New Orl. 23 - Tampa 13
****************************************
FINAL Tampa 48 - NO 21 LOSER
St. Louis -13.5 at Carolina -13.5
OVER/UNDER NL
St. Louis clinched the playoffs and are now eyeing home field. With statements by thier team that anything less than a superbowl victory would be considered a disappointment.
Do you think that there is even a slim chance of taking the Panthers with only one victory lightly?
Even so there will be little Carolina could do about it - still a trap game for the Rams!
****************************************
Rams 27 - Car. 17
****************************************
FINAL Rams 38 - Car 32 WINNER
San Diego +3.5 at Kansas City -3.5
OVER/UNDER 39.5
Kansas City has finally started to play like I thought they would all season, putting together an impressive OT win last week at home.
Here they get the struggling Chargers at home again. Funny how easy it looks -- exactly why I am leary -- and not only do I think Mr. Flutie has one more game left in him this year,
but the computer does too, go figure??
****************************************
San Diego 23 - KC 20
****************************************
FINAL KC 20 - SD 17 COVER
Seattle +3.5 at NY Giants -3.5
OVER/UNDER 35.5
So now that the Giants have somehow snuck back into the playoff picture, as incredible longshots
they are installed as 3.5 point favorites. Well this team will immediately end all doubt and certainly make sure that wont happen.
The Hawks will show the Giants why they are thankful the Giants drafted Ron Dayne instead of Shaun Alexander.
****************************************
Sea. 20 - Giants 16
****************************************
FINAL Giants 27 - Sea 24 COVER
|
|
Buffalo +3.5 @ Atlanta -3.5
OVER/UNDER 41.5
The Falcons also entertain slim playoff chances and after getting routed in Indy. last week.
Get a bit of a break when the Bills come to town. As always when QB Chandler plays he gives Atlanta a chance to win.
Against Buffalo the chances are much greater.
****************************************
Atl. 24 - Buffalo 9
****************************************
FINAL Atl 33 - Buf 30 Winner/No Cover
Chicago -2.5 @ Wash. +2.5
OVER/UNDER 32.5
A tough game for the Skins who saw thier divisional title hopes crushed at home by Philly last week.
Not only was that game mentally taxing for the Skins but the Bears will make that exponentially more so when they all but eliminate Washington from the Playoff picture.
****************************************
Chi. 20 - Wash 7
****************************************
FINAL Chi 20 - Was 15 WINNER
Cinci +10.5 at Balt. -10.5
OVER/UNDER 34.5
After losing Sunday Night to the Steelers Ray Lewis said something to the effect of the regular season really doesnt matter.
Although Playoffs arent exactly a certainty for Baltimore. They are definately not in Cincys plans this season, again. Teams like that
arguably can be dangerous with nothing to lose against a team that may think it will just be handed a win. Always reason to be wary.
****************************************
Balt. 17 - Cinci. 13
****************************************
FINAL Balt. 16 - Cinci 0 Winner/No Cover

Cleve. +7.5 at Green Bay -7.5
OVER/UNDER 37.5
Clevelands reputation just gets better after last week. Lets face it Browns fans were always considered somewhat less than civilized. They were always throwing things on the field,
usually dog biscuits. Good to see they have Graduated to bottles. Oh yeah Cleveland isnt at home this week, and Green Bay needs this game to clinch a playoff spot.
In Lambeau the only things getting thrown will be Farve TD passes.
****************************************
Green Bay 27 - Cleve. 13
****************************************
FINAL GB 30 - Cle. 7 WINNER
Det. +9.5 at Pitt. -9.5
OVER/UNDER NL
Hey Detroit finally got a WIN!! Hooray for Detroit, although serious gamblers saw it coming as Detroit had "beaten" the spread in its last 4 outings.
Teams like that are usually willy and dangerous, but Pittsburgh wont let that trend continue on thier turf.
****************************************
Pitts. 23 - Det. 12
****************************************
FINAL Pitt 47 - Det. 14 WINNER
Dallas +3.5 at Ariz. -3.5
OVER/UNDER 37.5
Dallas has historically owned the Cardnals, and had been playing very well of late -- until last weeks debacle in Seattle.
Arizona has also turner things around winning 3 out of thier last five (thats real good for the Cards!),
while they wont make lots of Gamblers happy they will find a way to pull this one out as well, barely.
****************************************
Cards. 20 - Dall. 19
****************************************
FINAL Ariz. 17 - Dall. 10 Winner/No Cover
Jacksonville +3.5 at Minnes. -3.5
OVER/UNDER 46.5
Minnesota can be real tough at home, especially after getting embarassed by losing to winless Detroit on the road.
Thats exactly where I think the problem will lie. A somewhat indifferent Minn. team with an especially suspect secondary will
get torn up by Brunell and the Jags. Maybe this week they wont get things thrown at them!
****************************************
Jacks. 20 - Minn. 19
****************************************
FINAL Jacks 33 - Minn 3 WINNER
NY Jets +2.5 at Indy. -2.5
OVER/UNDER 46.5
Normally we would save this preview for our Forum -- but what the Heck all of us here at the NFL Edge are in the Giving mood this holiday season,
so here in the rematch of opening day when Payton pasted 40 points on the Jets. The Jets feel as though they have lifted thier December curse by virtue of thier one point win over Cinci --
hmmm who told y'all about that -- and often times that is enough to really raise thier confidence which they will need going into Indy.
Indy will struggle to stop the run and the Jets will feature plenty of Curtis Martin en route to victory.
****************************************
Jets 24 - Colts 23
****************************************
FINAL Jets 29 - Indy 28 WINNER

OK, playez, the Doc is back to offer up
the last picks of this college football season.
It's been a great ride this year.
We've got some real good matchups this time around,
and I won't even spoil it by going on a tirade about the whole BCS farce
again. Without any further delay, here are some college bowl matchups that caught the Doc's eye:

FIESTA BOWL:
Colorado -2.5 vs. Oregon +2.5
This is a grudge match between the two programs that got jilted by the BCS.
The Fiesta Bowl will be their battle for second place.
Heck, a win by Nebraska in the Rose could propell one of these two teams
into a tie for the National Championship.
I like the Buffs here, simply because they are
playing phenomonal ball right now,
and I think the Ducks defense is suspect.
Read: Colorado will run all over them.
Oregon QB Joey Harrington will have a good day,
but not good enough this time.
****************************************
Colo. 28 - Oregon 23

Orange Bowl:
Fla -15.5 v. Maryld +15.5
Give props to Maryland Coach Ralph "the Fridge" for
doing an excellent job
with the Terrapins this season.
But please, with Ernest Graham healthy,
the Gators are simply too good.
They have weapons all over the field,
and Grossman can get the ball downfield in a hurry.
To add further, the game is in Florida -
this one will feel like a homer for the Gators.
Simply put the Doc likes the Gators big.
****************************************
Fla. 41 - Marylnd 17

Independence Bowl:
Iowa State +7.5 v. Alabama -7.5
The Crimson Tide is a storied football program
in the midst of some tough times and scandal.
With NCAA violations looming large, and rumors of Coach Dennis Franchione
looking to bail after just one season, this is a distracted team.
I see Iowa State as a team hungry for a bowl win,
and Bama as a team that isn't accustomed to getting up
for the Independence Bowl in lovely Shrevport, LA.
Look for the hungrier team to win this one.
Senaca Wallace has been the man for the Cyclones all year,
and I like him to lead Iowa State to victory and in the process get
a fat raise for coach Dan McCarney.
****************************************
Iowa St. 24 - Alabama 23
****************************************

Citrus Bowl:
Florida State +1.5 v. Virgina Tech -1.5
Although Florida State QB Chris Rix has shown signs of becoming
a great leader for Saint Bobby, I like the stout Tech
defense to control the tempo of this game. They shceme and they blitz and can cause
chaos to opposing offenses. On the other side of the ball,
the Hokies have had trouble finding an offensive rhythm this season.
I still see the Hokies doing just enough to win this one.
Defense, special teams, and maybe a turnover or two
will add up to success for Beamer's troops.
****************************************
Virgina Tech 27 - Florida St. 17
****************************************

Oh the "National Championship", yeah, I almost forgot -- Miami will win, but it will be a tough game. The Huskers are a proud team that is pissed off about all the "you don't belong" talk going around. That tends to motivate a team especially the caliber of a Nebraska. They will make this one interesting, but Miami's awesome overall talent will win out. The Canes win by 10!
That's it, folks. It's been a fun year. Its now time for the Doc to head into the offseason. You can be sure that when they get ready to kick it off next year the Doc will be right back here at www.TheNFLedge.com with my fearless Pre-Season picks and of course my select NCAA Game previews throughout the season! Happy and safe Holidays to all. The Doc is out!
