NFL WEEK 12

Wow!! Another Thurs. night treat! In Kansas City no less. Despite our so-so record this season here at The NFL Edge, we still manage to produce outstanding results in the prime time games! 6 out of our last 8 monday nighters, and a pretty decent record on the Sunday night prime time game also. There are a couple of exceptions like 1 - 2 on Thurs. Night NFL games, and probably most telling is that we have been WRONG on just about every game involving the Kansas City Chiefs! There that had to be said. Now getting down to business -- KC shocked many folks last week by thrashing Seattle at home. Arrowhead has historically been a graveyard for most teams. Not so this year, and despite the winning performance last week, KC really is lacking the solid defense that they have usually relied on to mount those home victories. Philly had a bit of a speed bump last week against an improving Washington Team, and failed to even get a TD! That will change this week as KC has yet to face a leader like McNabb and he will most certainly have thier suspect Defense tied all in knotts!! Keep in mind my Thurs. record and note that if nothing else the NFL edge has been a consistent .500 this season odds are that I will even my record up this week. Philly will play well for thier national audience, and roll dont fall for the cheap 2.5 point home dog thing this week. Beside this season there have been more road winners than any other season since 1973, that trend will hold up!

Denver comes into the Fish Tank fresh off ten days rest, and although winning against Dallas, they are now down to one running healthy running back. The Fish are coming off a strong rebound game by QB Jay Fiedler and have a budding super star in WR Chambers. The Fish will get it done at home.

Does anyone else feel like they are watching Jim Mora re-runs from 1996 with the Saints. They should, and similarily to his Saint team the Colts look to be fading fast. Baltimore has been putting the W's together and will likely pull this one out as well, but 6.5 is too generous for this Colt team who can still score some points, and a Balt. team which doesnt really light it up.

The Saints have let me down too often this season, and yet I still like this team. Carolina shown some grit last week hanging with Atlanta, thus giving fans false hope. Those who remember thier teams earlier close one at home with N'awlins will likely be suckered in with the 10 points. We say "Just say No" to these crazy spreads, this one will be a bourbon street blowout. In the words of the late great Creole cookin Justin Wilson I gaaaarunnnteee

Pitt. is another one of those teams that has really made me look foolish this season and subsequently contribute to my sub-par season record. So why buck a trend? I like the Vikes to shake off the home loss and get Spanked in Pitts. but will still hit on enough plays to stay within the spread.

The Pats have really improved since then, but the Jets keep confounding me here -- so in hopes of Jinxing the Jets, I'll take em here. However I STILL like the Pats with the points!

St. Louis doesnt get beat often, and when they do, well I feel sorry for thier next opponent. In this case the Falcons, who have put on a nice little run of thier own. They have enough Defense to keep it close, I just dont see that they would have the firepower to hang with a peed off Ram team.

Wonder what the weather is going to be like in Cincinnati on Sunday. Dont let Monday nights victory fool you, there are still flaws in Tampa -- big flaws. But heck the folks following the Bucs will tell you that this team plays its best with its backs against the wall. While I dont buy that, I do buy the fact that Scott Mitchell may QB the Bengals, which of course spells doom... for the Bengals.

Well if Thanks. shown us anything its that while Detroit really sucks, they can cover against anyone. Better yet in almost any situation. QB McMahn shown a spark. That hasn't been the Lions problem though, its thier paperlike defense, which will struggle to stop the Bears. In addition the Lion offense will find no quarter from Urlacher and the Bear D!

So now they are almost 10 point favorites. Here's a little Ditty for you, Dallas dont like the Skins! Last year, the Cowboys thumped the skins, and they beat them down earlier this year on Mon. Night. Not saying Dallas is all that, but as far as one team matches up against another you might say they have the Skins number. Skins to Win, but Big D. will give them problems! The EDGEs Upset SPECIAL -- take Dallas with the POINTS!

Well easy now, Rob Johnson is nowhere in sight for the Bills and teams like the Niners -- young teams often are guilty of underestimating opponents like the Bills. Buffalo is after all a pro team (though I think U.M. or Fla. would wipe these guys out!!) and ALL pro teams are capable of having big games on prime time. Remember the Bills ONLY win this year is on Prime time in Jacksonville! Wont win the game, but will give the Niners a scare. Thats all well and good -- your official warning, but when I put my money down, I have a thing for GOLD.

THE DR.s PRESCRIPTION

The football season is winding down, and it's time for teams to make a bid for the BCS (an utterly flawed, asinine system). I want to look only at teams that are making a run at the post season from this point on. Also, I'd like to take this opportunity, (and yes, it is an opportunity to be able to blab at ya'll) to make a plea for reform in the bowl system. Let's get something straight - the Doc LOVES the bowl games. That being said, there are simply way too many of them. A wise man once said "Six wins does not a bowl team make", and the Doc agrees. Lets raise the minimum number of wins to seven see what happens. Hey, if the megacorporation.com bowl in lovely Binghamton, NY ends up without any teams, than so be it. Lose a few bowl games and I don't think anyone would mind. Might help restore the luster that used to come with getting selected to go bowlin'. Just my two cents....

Well, folks, the season is winding down and we're all knee-deep in that mess called the BCS. There are four games this weekend with BCS implications attached to them. Don't know that they'll all be good games, but at least they mean something. Because of that, they are the ones I'll talk about.

The Canes have been playing out of their minds lately, just shredding up some quality opponents. Now, they must leave the friendly confines of the Orange Bowl and travel to Blacksburg, where they have had trouble of late. This will matter, but not much. The Canes are back to their old, cocksure ways, and are simply too talented for the Hokies. Grant Noel will get harrassed by UM's lightning-quick D line all day. No reason to believe that the Miami offense won't light it up again. Break up the Canes!

This game has been an annual nightmare for Tennessee coach Phil Fulmer. The Swamp will be rockin and the Gators offense has been superb this year. I really dig this Grossman kid. He's probably aready better than any Spurrier coached QB, and that's saying something. RB Ernest Graham will be out, replaced by Robert Gillespe. That could be significant. On the other side, Tennesse has Donte Stallworth back to shag balls from Casey Clausen. This one will be close, but the Vols will not be able to overcome the Swamp mystique.

Didn't Texas already lay a whuppin on these guys? Yup, 41-7 back in October. Trouble is, this Buffalo team is vastly improved since then and probably playing as well as anyone in the country (cept the Canes). Chris Simms and company will have their hands full this time, and the Doc has officially jumped on the Gary Barnett bandwagon. I like Colorado at home, spoiling Texas' outside chance at the Rose Bowl and once again proving that Mack Brown can't win the big ones.

Joey Harrington and his Ducks have not played in three weeks. If they come out cold from that layoff, the Beavers have the talent to win this backyard brawl. These teams hate each other, and the Beavers are dangerous with nothing to lose. My feeling here is that Dennis Erickson finds a way to keep this one close, but that the Ducks will wake up in time to win this years Civil War.
