NFL WEEK 9!

BUFFALO +5.5 @ NEW ENGLAND -5.5
OVER/UNDER 39.5

After putting a hurting on the Falcons the Pats are finally getting some overdue respect. Brady has impressed at QB and the Pats can get themselves into the playoff picture with a win here. While Buffalo has struggled all season they had been making strides prior to last week getting beaten down at home. The trick here is that niether of these divisional rivals have put up more than 17 points against each other in thier last several contests. Expect that trend to turn around but the Pats will still prevail.

   N.E. 23 - Buff. 14

FINAL NE 21 - Buf 11 WINNER

CAROLINA +18.5 AT ST. LOUIS -18.5
OVER/UNDER 47.5

Even with Chris Wenke hurting and the Rams being the juggernaut they are, 18.5 is an awful, awful lot of points. Its obvious the books deperately want anyone to pick the Cats. Well heres a little something to chew on... Last year Carolina SWEPT the Rams. Take that as you will, it may not be worth a dang this year. The Rams will be out for revenge, and the poor helpless Carolina Kittys will be getting spanked.

   Rams 34 - Car 13

FINAL Rams 48 - Car 14 WINNER

CINCINNATI +4.5 AT JACKSONVILLE -4.5
OVER/UNDER 39.5

The Jags are mired in a 5 game losing skid. Cinci has been a sleeper pick here at the Edge that has come through for us several times. Though we like the matchups on paper, and yup our Computer here gives the Edge to Cincy, I can say that this is a nice spot here for the Jags. They still have enough Defense to slow down the Bengals Offense which can bog down at times. On Offense Mark Brunell has shown signs of the Mark Brunell of old. They will exploit the Bengal secondary and put up the numbers. Corey Dillon worries me, yes, he can take over a game. Im betting Kevin Hardy doesnt let that happen this week though.

   Jacks. 28 - Cinci 17
****************************************
FINAL Jax. 30 - Cinci 13 WINNER

DALLAS +5.5 AT ATLANTA -5.5
OVER/UNDER NL

This is an interesting game. Atlantas Chris Chandler was the NFC's top rated passer and with him at the helm, had some respectability. As predicted two weeks too early HERE on the NFL edge, Mr Chandler had his annual concussion - or broken rib, or whatnot handed to him by the Pats last week and the result an 24 - 10 loss!! Sure Atl. may feature FUTURE STAR Micheal Vick, but he has yet to prove star like in the NFL and in fact he will be upstaged by a Future Star gone awry coming back in Ryan Leaf and the Speedy Cowboys Defense!
****************************************
   Dallas 20 - Atl. 19
****************************************
FINAL Atl 20 - Dal 13 LOSER

GREEN BAY -2.5 AT CHICAGO +2.5
OVER/UNDER 37.5

Green Bay was in a WAR last week with Tampa and close tough games tend to have lingering affects the following week. The Bears were beaten soundly for 59 minutes and 24 seconds, alas a miracle in the last 36 seconds in soldier field have this Bears team thinking they are invincible! While that may or may not be true The Bears have already made believers out of me. Although I like Jim Miller at QB and I have much less faith in Shane Matthews even with his last second heroics. The Bears are too good Defensively to get blown out, but thier seven game win streak will finally come to end at the hands of Brett Farve.
****************************************
   Pack 21 - Bears 20
****************************************
FINAL GB 20 - Chi 12 Winner/No Cover

KANSAS CITY +4.5 AT NEW YORK JETS -4.5
OVER/UNDER 40.5

The Jets make me sick. Which team is going to show up this week. The Jets were the beneficiaries of a bad game by Saint QB Aaron Brooks last week. The Chiefs meanwhile perhaps having the Yoke of the NFL Edge lifted from thier necks were able to go into San Diego and pull out an impressive victory. That all started in the 4th quarter against the Colts two weeks ago, QB Trent Green is finally starting to feel comfortable in Vermiels system and that will continue again this week against a thin Jets Secondary.
****************************************
   Chiefs 31 - Jets 20
****************************************
FINAL Jets 27 - KC 7 LOSER

MIAMI +3.5 AT INDIANAPOLIS -3.5
OVER/UNDER NL

Most books arent even taking this game due to the Edgerrin James injury. Many things could change from Tuesday when I am writing this to Sunday. Assuming Edge Plays how effective will he be? Assuming he doesn't Rhodes looked pretty good. Heres the ticket though, The Dolphin Defense is Damn good, they may not be able to totally stop Manning, but they can keep him in check. A less than 100% James plays right into their scheme. On the other side of the Ball RB Lamar Smith behind his big OL will probably have a big day against the Colt defense which is porous against the Run. Defense and running game add up to Wins folks!!
****************************************
   Miami 27 - Indy 24
****************************************
FINAL Miami 27 - Indy 24 WINNER
Uncanny aint it??

MINNESOTA +5.5 AT PHILADELPHIA -5.5
OVER/UNDER 41.5

Despite Minnesotas record and arsenal, they really aren't quite the team they were. Philly has the Defense to contain thier attack, and Philly should be able to exploit a defense which is suspect at best. This will be a fun to watch, but ultimately the better Defense wins games. From where we sit Philly has the better D.
****************************************
   Phi. 37 - Minn. 27
****************************************
FINAL Phi 48 - Min 17 WINNER

PITTSBURGH -3.5 AT CLEVELAND +3.5
OVER/UNDER 32.5

Last week was a heartbreaker for both teams. This game has always been a hard fought grudge match and this will be no different. Expect a hard hitting low scoring game. Cleve has the defense to contain Bettis, and despite his improved play, I cant see Kordell able to do it alone. Cleveland has the edge at QB and Couch can find seams even in Pitts. Defnse. RB James Jackson for Cleveland doesn't quite have the same impact as Bettis and Pitt will just keep feeding him, even if they fall behind. Unless Cleve races out to a big lead, the Bus will wear the Brownies down I'm afraid.
****************************************
   Pitts. 16 - Cleve 15
****************************************
FINAL Pitt 15 - Cle 12 WINNER

NEW ORLEANS +2.5 AT SAN FRAN. -2.5
OVER/UNDER

Hard to see the Saints as an underdog here, especially with the way the handled the Niners twice last year. That was last year though and San Fran has a better team this year, despite the turmoil allegedly in the S.F. Locker room and the questionable status of QB Garcia. If He plays the Niners will win. If the Saints can get to him and knock him out, it could be a mild upset for the Saints!
****************************************
   San Fran 23 - New Orl. 17
****************************************
FINAL SF 28 - NO 27 Winner/No COVER

NEW YORK GIANTS -6.5 AT ARIZONA +6.5
OVER/UNDER 37.5

The Giants may have saved thier season with the big rally in the second half last week against the Cowboys. Will they be able to play off that emotion, or did they spend it all last week. The Cardnials have been typically anemic, scoring 14 points in thier past 2 games. They have basically no running game and will need to throw the ball all over. Which will help since the Giants are succeptable to the long ball. The Giants will need to score TD's and put the Birds away early, if they dont they will keep Az. hanging around they are due for one of thier "comeback wins". Besides its always the teams no one suspects who pull the upsets, thats why they call them upsets.
****************************************
   Ariz. 14 - Giants 12
****************************************
FINAL Gints 17 - Az 10 LOSER

SAN DIEGO +5.5 AT DENVER -5.5
OVER/UNDER NL

This one came out with no line due to Fluties concussion and even though they now say he will play. Well even the edge wont blindly bet on the Chargers just because Doug Fluties playing. Besides the numbers here point to a hungry and desperate Bronco team having a big effort here at home. The alternative could mean an early end to the Broncos post season aspirations. While that may still happen A win puts them right in the thick of things again.
****************************************
   Broncos 28 - Chargers 21
****************************************
FINAL Den 26 - SD 16 WINNER

TAMPA BAY -6.5 AT DETROIT +6.5
OVER/UNDER 39.5

OK sooner or later Detroit will win a game. Tampa a team much like the Giants, has to score TD's and put this team away early. Field goals and letting Detroit hang around will certainly not bode well. Like I said detroit will eventually win a game, is it this week???
****************************************
   Tampa 20 - Det. 13
****************************************
FINAL Tampa 20 - Det 17 Winner/No COVER

OAKLAND -5.5 AT SEATTLE +5.5
OVER/UNDER 38.5

It appears that the "Genius" tag no longer applies to Mike Holmgren. I mean its pretty obvious right, Dilfer starts Hawks 2-0 Hasselbeck 1-5 hmmm, so whos starting this week. Dont matter, here come DA RAYYYYDDDEEEZZZZZZZZZ, although I mean even they will be upset somewhere. DO you think Holmgren might throw a headfake and start Dilfer? If so then Im taking my money back!!
****************************************
   Oakl. 30 - Sea. 23

THE DR.s PRESCRIPTION

For College Fans!

Since I was asked to, I've decided to add my list to the several dozen that already exist. I based mine on performance on the field, taking into consideration the quality of opponents.

THE DOCS TOP 10

  • 1. Nebraska
  • 2. Miami
  • 3. Oklahoma
  • 4. Florida
  • 5. Texas
  • 6. Tennessee
  • 7. Washington
  • 8. Oregon
  • 9. Bringham Young
  • 10. Florida State

I will tell you why youre WRONG!

I will say it again, this list is based on on-field performance. Doesn't mean the Doc won't pick, say, a number 4 team to beat a number 1 team....

The Doc would like to pause a moment and pay homage to that great Yankee run of the last six years - five AL penants, four W.S. championships, and just an amazing job this season. Nothing but props for the Diamondbacks also. A ballsy performance. Now, on to the important stuff - college ball!

Miami -19.5 at Boston College +19.5

The Canes invade Chestnut Hill. Run for cover! BC star tailback William Green is out - suspended for a violation of team rules. Folks, he's a stud and BC really has no one to replace this guy. If there is still a line, take UM and lay the points. The boys from Miami will overcome the chilly northern air (never discount the effects of the cold on these southern boys) and put a hurtin on BC.

       Miami 44 - B.C. 14
    ****************************************
    FINAL Miami 18 - BC 7 WINNER/NO COVER

Florida -11.5 at South Carolina +11.5

It seems like no one can stop Steve Spurrier's Fun n Gun offense lately. Rex Grossman has really been lighting it up and the Gators lead the nation in total offense. Lou Holtz will not be outcoached by anyone, especially Spurrier who he despises, but I just think the Gators will be too much for SC. Phil Petty is not likely to light it up like Grossman and Co, so the onus is on a stout SC defense to keep the game in reach. They keep it close, but not close enough.
    ****************************************
       Gators 34 - S.C. 20
    ****************************************
    FINAL Fla 54 - S. Car. 17 WINNER

Colorado -3.5 at Iowa State +3.5

The Cyclones really got a dose of reality last week via Kansas State. Now Gary Barnett brings his Buffaloes into town. The question is wheather or not Sennaca Wallace can get that I State offense back on track. I want to pick the upset here, but I just can't. The Buffs will get the job done in a tough road game. Look for a couple of early scores to hold up for the visitors.
    ****************************************
       Colo. 29 - Iowa St. 19
    ****************************************
FINAL Col 40 - Ia St 27 WINNER

    Oregon at UCLA pickem

Oregon's Onterria Smith has been putting up some big numbers lately, almost upstaging a certain star quarterback. UCLA is like a wounded animal right now, and that's dangerous. RB DeShaun Foster is out for the game and the Bruins are still reeling from some tough Pac-10 losses. Ripe for a beating? Well, the Doc has been on the UCLA bandwagon this season, and I think they overcome all the adversity and stick it to the Ducks. Lock this baby up, put it in a safe place, and give it to your girlfriend as a parting gift.
