The NFL PICKS:
|
|
|
Indianapolis At New York pickem
OVER/UNDER 44.5
Sure last year the Colts were my preseason pick for the AFC east and the Jets, well they are the Jets.
But I like the new attitude with Heman Edwards at the helm. The Defense looks rejuvinated and solid.
Sure the Colts have Payton and Edgerrin, but the difference will be Curtis Martin!

Jets 21 - Indy 20
****************************************
FINAL Indy 45 - Jets 24 LOSER
Oakland -2.5
At Kansas City +2.5
OVER/UNDER 43.5
Oakland is loaded with talent, athletes and confidence. The Chiefs will have a new look with QB Trent Green, and coach Dick Vermeil at the helm.
The question is will KC be ready to win in their new system yet? Maybe, but not on Sunday!

Oak 24 - KC 17
****************************************
FINAL Oak 20 - KC 17 WINNER
Carolina +9.5
At Minnesota -9.5
OVER/UNDER 46.5
Most bettors love a big line, and the 'Cats are a big Dog. But they are going into a snake pit. The Vikes have been riding an emotional wave since the loss of Tackle Corey Stringer earlier this summer.
Look for that emotion to explode all over Carolina on Sunday.

Vikes 31 - Car. 14

FINAL Car 23 - Min 13 LOSER
Detroit +5.5
At Green Bay -5.5
OVER/UNDER 41.5
Is Charlie Batch and the Lions ready to roar?
In Green Bay? Against Brett Farve?
No
****************************************
Pack. 20 - Det 13
****************************************
FINAL GB 28 - Det 6 WINNER
New England
At Cincinnati pick
OVER/UNDER 35.5
Last season the Pats fell completly apart but bear in mind in about 5 or 6 games they lost were within a touchdown from winning.
N.E. may or may not fare better this season, but Cincy will more than likely struggle against the Pats, even at home.
****************************************
Pats 17 - Cinci 16
****************************************
FINAL Cin 23 - NE 17 LOSER
New Orleans
At Buffalo pick
OVER/UNDER 37.5
I keep looking at this line thinking its a mistake. The mistake, I think is the people who make the line.
Rob Johnson is one of the most sackable, immobile QBs in the NFL. The Saint Defense will rough him and the Bills up. Yes, even in Buffalo!
****************************************
N.O. 24 - Buffalo 13
****************************************
FINAL NO 24 - Buf 6 WINNER
Seattle -5.5
At Cleveland +5.5
OVER/UNDER 38.5
There are those people out there who expect big things from the Browns this year. Of course they have been raised drinking water from Lake Erie their whole life.
****************************************
Hawks 38 - Cleve. 16
****************************************
FINAL Sea 9 - Cle 6 Win/No Cov

|
Tampa Bay -8.5
At Dallas +8.5
OVER/UNDER 34.5
Quincy Carter leads "Americas Team" into the first season after Troy. Add to that the New look porous defense and it sure makes for a delightfully long season for the Pokes.
****************************************
Bucs 31 - Dal 10
****************************************
FINAL Tam 10 - Dal 6 Win/No Cov
Pittsburgh +3.5
At Jacksonville -3.5
OVER/UNDER 37.5
Kordell is the Man again in Pitts. Do we need say anymore?
OK then, Mark Brunnell and Fred Taylor.
****************************************
Jax 24 - Pitt 17
****************************************
FINAL Jax 21 - Pit 3 WINNER
Chicago +10.5
At Baltimore -10.5
OVER/UNDER 33.5
Even if the Ravens are the Champs, at home, and the Bears are more like the cubs nowadays. This aint the SuperBowl its just the Bears
Nothing like a unfamiliar sub-500 wanna be team to really get the birds excited huh? Exactly, yawn Balt wins
despite looking like they are bored doing so.
****************************************
Balt 19 - Chi 17
****************************************
FINAL Bal 17 - Chi 6 Win/No Cov
St. Louis -3.5
At Phila. +3.5
OVER/UNDER 46.5
This may be the Marquee matchup of this week. Philly a sleeper pick for the Super Bowl by many other 'so-called' experts has a chance to make a statement with a full compliement of weapons,
McNabb, Duece Staley and new WRs Freddie Mitchell and James Thrash. That and the 3.5 points make Philly an AWFULLY attractive home dog.
DONT BE FOOLED, the Rams will run all over the Vets lousy new turf, and in the end they will send the message to the rest of the NFC.
****************************************
Rams 31 - Philly 21
****************************************
FINAL STL 20 - Phi 17 Win/No Cov
Atlanta +3.5
At San Fran -3.5
OVER/UNDER 46.5
Hard to argue with this line S.F. on paper has a very nice offense, and some young talent on D.
Atl. might not be the vaunted passing team the Niner are but Jamal Anderson might have a big day (hello Fantasy players!) against a niner team which last year
couldnt stop the run.
****************************************
San Fran 28 - Atl. 20
****************************************
FINAL SF 16 - Atl 13 Win/No Cover
Washington +2.5
At San Diego -2.5
OVER/UNDER 36.5
Oh how the mighty have fallen, last year this time the Skins were everyones pick for the Super Bowl. Shows you how much the preseason experts know!
But is San Diego a team which won only one game all last season really worthy of being a 3 point favorite??
Two Words, Doug FLUTIE
****************************************
S.D. 31 - Was. 27
****************************************
FINAL SD 30 - Wa 3 WINNER
Miami +6.5
At Tennessee -6.5
OVER/UNDER 34.5
If not for Phi-StL this would be the game of the week. The Titans have been unbeatable in Tenn.
Miami's solid Defense should keep them in the game, but can Jay Fiedler match up with Steve McNair, and I think he can,
partly because of Miamis new speed on the outside. Its almost too close to call, in this case
I would grab the points and run, Lamar run!!
****************************************
Tenn 19 - Mia 17
****************************************
FINAL Mia 31 - Tenn 23 Cover!
New York Giants +6.5
At Denver -6.5
OVER/UNDER 43.5
I will post the prevue for this game in the
FORUM later on this week.

For College Fans!
A great opening week in college ball. Got to see some great individual plays and some awesome team efforts (Miami comes to mind here). Some questions still linger: Is Fresno State for real? Is Nebraska really as vulnerable as they looked? What exactly did Michigan show us? This week, I'll attempt to address these questions with my picks of the week:

Fresno State +2.5 at Wisconsin -2.5
OVER/UNDER 49.5
I loved the effort that the Bulldogs put in last week,
embarrassing Oregon State.
Pat Hill's coaching philosophy is simple:
we'll play anyone, anywhere, anytime.
He just wants a chance to show what his program can do.
This week will be a tough test for the Bulldogs, however.
I was very impressed with Wisconsin last week, even in a losing effort.
At home this week, I think they right the ship take the next step with their offense,
which has been looking for an identity.
****************************************
Badgers 27 - Fresno 21
****************************************
FINAL Fresno 32 - Wisc 20 LOSER

South Carolina -1.5 at Georgia +1.5
OVER/UNDER 42.5
Georgia QB David Greene looked good in last weeks win.
The Bulldogs will be at home, and they have talent on both sides of the ball.
The story is similar for USC. Lou Holtz' troops are seasoned and will be very confident
this week. Phil Petty and Derek Watson will lead the offense,
but I see the key here being the D.
I think Greene will find it much tougher this week against a stiff
'Cock secondary and fierce pass rush. The Dr. Sees a Big road win for SC.
****************************************
So. Car. 24-Ga. 19
****************************************
FINAL SC 14 - Ga 9 WINNER

Michigan +3.5 at Washington -3.5
OVER/UNDER 48.5
These are two teams trying to reload
after losing a huge chunk of last year's offense.
I heard a lot of criticism of the Wolverines O after last weeks 31-13
win over Miami (OH).
Part of that was opening day jitters.
This offense has too much talent not to gel.
I am concerned about the untested Michigan line against a fast,
aggressive Washington D, but I think Lloyd Carr
will pull this one out in a hostile environment.
Washington's learning curve with Cody Pickett at QB is a little broader than UM's.
****************************************
Mich. 28- Wash. 20
****************************************
FINAL Wash 23 - Mich 18 LOSER

Notre Dame +13.5 at Nebraska -13.5
OVER/UNDER 48.5
I am not as concerned as many others in the media about Nebraska's
poor showing in their two tune up games. The Huskers will be ready.
Eric Crouch and Dahrran Diedrick will be on top of their games for the Nebraska offense.
Notre Dame's challenge will be to have their offense at top speed
in a very hostile environment against a team with a couple games under their belt.
The Irish have plenty of talent, but the offensive line will be a concern,
as well as the run D, which lacks experience up the middle.
Nebraska's incredible home record will be better after this week,
but take the Irish with all those points.

Nebraska 27- Notre Dame 23
